For over twenty-five years, Richard Forrest focused his legal practice exclusively in the area of accountant liability and professional licensing and regulatory issues. His clients ranged from solo practitioners to international accounting firms and staff accountants to controllers of publicly-traded companies. Mr. Forrest defended hundreds of lawsuits involving audit, tax, and consulting services
ranging in claim size up to $13 billion. He counseled and defended employee whistleblowers and regularly advised accountants on claim prevention. Mr. Forrest also has represented professionals before state and federal agencies, including Texas and other state boards of public accountancy, private licensing organizations, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, NASDAQ, the State Bar of Texas, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). For ten years Mr. Forrest authored an approved ethics course required by rules of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for certification and licensing as a certified public accountant in Texas and presented that course to thousands of CPAs and CPA candidates.
In 1998 Mr. Forrest founded the law firm that is now Forrest McElroy, P.C. in Houston, Texas. Prior to founding Forrest McElroy, P.C., Mr. Forrest was a partner in a mid-sized full service business law firm in Houston.
